Nathan is Hebrew and means "gift from God" - we couldn't have been more blessed than to have been chosen as his parents!

Thank you for keeping up-to-date with Nathan. We hope you visit often and enjoy experiencing our son's journey as much as we do. Please feel free to leave comments.

We love hearing from everyone!!!!

The Dry Run.....

Danny and I arrived at the hospital Wednesday at 6:00pm and I was given a medication called cervadel that softens the cervix over a 10 to 12 hour period and could possibly have put me into labor. I started having mild contractions at about 5:00am.

At 9:00am I was given the second medication -- pitocin. This medication brings on contractions and should have produced dialation at one centimeter per hour. From what I've heard most of you say about this medicine I'll admit I was a little scared that I was going to go from like 0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds!!!! When I said that to the nurse just before she administered the medication - she laughed and said that would not happen and it would bring them on slowly. Which is exactly what happened - by 5:00pm I was having regular contractions every 3 minutes.

Unfortunately, the contractions did not produce the expected dialation -- I was only one centimeter. At this point the doctor came in and gave us our options - go through this same process again (which could possibly have yielded the same result), go home (see what happens), or have a c-section.

It was not an easy choice because Danny and I wanted so badly to meet our son but we didn't want to put my life or the baby's life in jeopardy. These medications put a lot of stress on the baby and myself -- although both of us handled it like champs!

So, we decided this would be our dry run and we'd have to wait on our son. As sad as I am that we were not going to meet Nathan and that we had gone through all of this - it was the right decision. If Nathan wasn't ready there must be a reason and we must respect that. I am still having mild contractions every once in a while and my hands and feet are swollen but other than being disappointed at the outcome I am completely fine.

I told Danny as we were driving home - Nathan's like his mommy and that I am proud of him - he is going to come into this world on his own terms!! Not mine or any doctors - his. That's my boy!!!

Thank you to all those that called, emailed, and waited patiently by the phone. We will certainly keep you all informed if and when changes develop.

Love ya!

Danny and I had our very last doctors appointment yesterday!!!!!! I can't begin to tell you how excited I am for several reasons. First and foremost, it means Nathan will be here soon!!! Yes, in 5 days!!!!! December 27th is the day we finally get to meet our son.

The appointment went fine and the baby is doing great! For those that may read this before the 27th, here is the plan once we arrive at the hospital -- Danny will call our immediate family and let them know when it's time to come to the hospital. After the baby is born Danny will call a few people but he simply won't be able to call everyone. Instead, my sister Kathy, will log on to my Yahoo account and send everyone a picture and all the details!! So, check your email throughout the day.

Danny and I are very excited - Danny is very nervous so say a prayer for him that he makes it through the delivery process!! hahahahaha

Some of you have asked if I'm nervous and the answer is no. My greatest concerns at this point are making sure everything is in order for the baby. Making sure Nathan doesn't get his Hep B vaccine (when he is born) because it's totally unnecessary -- well, unless you have an STD or he plans on traveling outside the country in the near future. Niether of which is an issue -- if we do plan on traveling to Europe in the next year he can get it then - not minutes after his arrival. I plan on taking this tact with many of the unnecessary vaccines given to our children these days.

I've also been spending time searching for the right pediatrician. Not an easy task. I'm funny about certain things (surprise surprise). If I walk into a pediatricians office and the floors and rugs appear dirty or old, there are really no toys, books, or child decorations on the walls, or if the office doesn't look child friendly - I'm not bringing my son there. How does this relate to the care he will get - if a doctors office that specializes in children is anything but child friendly on the surface then underneath it all do they really care? Of course the doctors reputation is always a factor but this is about finding the just the right doctor.

Merry Christmas to you all. We will be in touch!!

Baby Language

This week I was introduced to a woman (on the television of course) that claims to be able to understand infant baby language.

Although, not really a language she claims that there are 5 discernible sounds that are reactions to how the baby is feeling. I was very intrigued considering Nathan is on his way in 11days and I'd love to be able to understand what, if anything, he is trying to tell me. There is a DVD that not only shows you each of the 5 sounds and what each means but also the body language that accompanies these distinct cries so you may sooth your baby before he/she freaks out! Oh wouldn't that be nice.

Let me give you an example - she contends that a baby will cry "NEH" and that means they are hungry. When child is hungry he/she will put their tongue on the top of their mouth and that simulates the sucking reflex -- making this sound distinct from the others.

Here are the others:

"OWH" means they are sleepy
"HEH" means they are in discomfort - hot/cold or need a diaper change
"Eair" means they have lower gas -it's more of an "awe" sound and the baby will be pulling his/her legs up
"EH" baby needs to burp

The DVD is called Dunstan Baby Language - if it works then it's worth its weight in gold. However, this speech pattern recognition has its critics. You decide.

Our Christmas Miracle

Danny and I couldn't be happier to report the news we received at the specialist yesterday!!

Nathan has gained just about a full pound in the last 2 weeks! WOW!!! He's 5 pounds now and in the 13th percentile. The doctor was also pleased with his progress. My fluids are good and the baby doesn't appear to be under any stress. He's doing just great!

Unless Nathan comes sooner on his own he is still scheduled to be born on December 27th. I'm hopeful that if he continues to gain weight at the current rate he'll be around 6 to 6.5 pounds when born.

What a blessed Christmas gift and answer to so many prayers.

Thank you all for your prayers and concern. Danny and I would like to give a special thank you to Nonnie (Danny's grandmother) -- she calls everyday and cooks us lots of really wonderful food - I think she may be the reason Nathan has gained so much weight!!! Thank you Nonnie!!

23 Days until we meet our son!

29 Days and Counting......What's in a Birthday

I have spent a good deal of time thinking about how Nathan's birthday will affect him for the rest of his life. For those of you born around Christmas you may be the only ones that can relate to this -- most Christmas time children rarely get parties or have a special day all to themselves. Nathan is fortunate that his mommy too is a Christmas baby because I'll make sure that he has the same opportunity to celebrate his big day just like every other child. And, how do we know Nathan will be a Christmas baby? Well, there was a major development at the Dr.'s office yesterday - Nathan's arrival is scheduled for December 27th!!!!!!! Unless, he comes earlier on his own. If we stick to the schedule and Nathan is born on the 27th, Danny and I will celebrate his birthday each year after Christmas!!!

We go back to the doctor again Thursday and then to the specialist on Monday. It's probably a good thing I'm home because we are now going to the doctor three times per week.

33 Weeks and Only Weeks Away!!!

Danny and I visited our specialist this morning and the baby has gained weight -- weighing in at 4.1 lbs but has dropped down to the 10th percentile from the 15th two weeks ago.

So, what does this mean? It means that the specialist has taken me out of work as of today. She really didn't give me a choice this time. She said at this point I want you home eating and sitting on the couch. No shopping - nothing. We have to continue monitoring his weight to make sure it doesn't drop any lower. I'll do whatever I need to to make sure he's healthy.

For those of you that know me -- you know I'm not a television watcher -- so, I'll be doing a lot of reading. Read any good books lately? Please pass along any suggestions.

Now, for a little better news - we got to see his hair this morning!!!! His little peach fuzz! However, he decided to not cooperate for pictures -- we were only able to get one of half his face. The picture is cute because he has his hand turned up on his forehead like he is stressed out! It's so funny. Then when she tried to get another one he put his hand in front of his face - like, "talk to the hand mom" and then the little turkey turned his back on us!!!!! We weren't able to see his face for the rest of the visit.

My next visit is this afternoon to the regular OB for the non-stress test and appointment. I am also happy to report that Nathan has turned and is in position! So, no C-section at this point.

Thanks for keeping up to date on Nathan's progress. I happen to think he may be joining us before his scheduled arrival - call it a gut feeling.

Take Care and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
We love you

Time to Leave the Office

Well after much back and forth with my doctors I've finally agreed to be taken out of work. I compromised with them to stay home the last month - December. So, my last day at work is going to be November 30th. It was a difficult decision because as most of you know - I like to work, love my job and am always busy!!!! It's going to be really strange but I'm sure I'll manage.

I know myself - I'll be doing work from home - I'll be so bored doing nothing but waiting for Nathan! Thank God its the holidays! I can bake cookies or something. I may just gain another 30 pounds in December!!! Just kidding! :-)

Our 8th Month Appointment

I went to the regular OB this morning and everything is remaining fine. I lost a pound and no one said anything so I'm assuming its fine. As long as Nathan keeps growing that's really all that matters.

While monitoring his heartbeat this morning I was able to hear my own heartbeat, which was kind of cool and strange all at once. Nathan's heartbeat was fast and mine was slower.

Another indication that things are moving along -- his heartbeat has moved. At last check he was butt down and we were always able to monitor him on the right side of my belly. Today his heartbeat was found just below my belly button. I'm hoping that means he is turning.

We see our specialist and our regular OB again next Monday for a weight check and more heart rate monitoring. I have no doubt that Nathan is growing big and strong because he is kicking the crap out of me lately!!! :-) Although, the doctor called him petite this morning! I started cracking up. I never thought of him as petite - woman are petite - men are not.

Well, we have finally order Nathan's furniture and it should be here in a week or so. Danny picked it out and its just awesome! We love it. I am really excited to begin putting his room together. I may go this weekend and buy his curtains and lamp so that I have them when the furniture gets here. I also have some artwork by one of Danny's favorite artists that I need to have framed so I can get that done too.

Time is going so fast! Nathan will be here before we know it!! YEAH!! Danny and I can't wait to meet our son.

Till next week!

Nathan's Baby Shower

On Saturday November 3rd, Nathan's Aunt Kathy gave Danny and I an incredible baby shower! The venue was so beautiful. It was a well planned and creative event filled with family and friends. All for Nathan!! What a lucky little boy!

The shower invitation was done in a modern baby blue and brown, which I loved!!! And, everything after that point coordinated with that color scheme and motif -- including the matching thank you cards, baby shower cake and little baby cupcakes!! Thanks Sis!!!!!

Each person in attendance and those that had RSVP'd that they were coming received a very special shower favor that my sister spent a tremendous amount of time creating -- personalized stationary or cards. What a creative idea! She wrapped each one with bows that matched the cake! All this from my sister who thinks she is not creative!!!! I think she now knows otherwise!!
One of the most wonderful things about such gatherings is the ability to see everyone. With everyone's lives so busy it can become a daunting scheduling task just to sit and visit with each other. My friend Rebecca came up from New York City and it was the first time she has seen me pregnant! I really think we all enjoyed spending time with each other!

Nathan received such wonder gifts and is well on his way to having what he needs for a long time. We are having to return only 2 gifts because of the continual recall issue (the Bumbo's). We received generous, thoughtful, creative, and beautiful hand-made gifts - Thank you! I am going today to purchase Nathan's furniture and the glider with the gift cards and money Nathan received! Babies R Us said it would take about 7 to 10 days for everything to come in -- so we should have things ready by December 1st.

I plan on washing some of Nathan's clothes today and start getting my hospital bag together - just in case! Last thing I want is for Danny to have to do all that. I figure that if I'm not ready my sister will help him! Thank God for Sisters!!!!

Will blog again after our weekly appointments!

Thanks Again Sis!!!! And, thank you all for attending and sharing in Nathan's baby shower!!
Danny and I are blessed to have each of you in our lives.

31 WEEKS AND COUNTING - Specialist Appointment This Morning

Danny and I visited our specialist this morning and only received good news for once!!!!! The baby is now in the 15th percentile (up from 6th and then 10th)!!!! We could not be more pleased!! He now weighs 3.5 pounds! His face is really starting to fill out and he is getting chubby cheeks!

The doctor said "whatever your doing - keep doing it!" I told her that I am doing - "nothing"! hahahaha and it seems to be working. I guess leaving the gym was a step in the right direction for our son.

We received three new pictures the morning too and one of them Nathan looks like he is praying! It's so cute - Danny and I were joking that he is praying "God please let me out of here!" :-) At least that's what we'd be praying for!

I go this afternoon to see our regular doctor for our weekly non stress test and check-up. I plan on confirming their plans for Nathan's arrival date and what he thinks about the progress so far.

I will blog again in the next day or two to give you that information and to tell you all about our awesome baby shower!!!! I'd like to post a few pictures so I'll need to get them from my sister first.

PS - We are buying a really lovely glider that matches Nathan's crib and dresser -- I've already picked it out! Thank you for your input.

30 Weeks and Counting!!

Danny and I created this blog to keep everyone informed of Nathan's growth, medical updates, and lots of other little tidbits of information. We will also blog after his birth to keep you all updated on how and what we're up to! This blog will also allow you to see the latest pictures and videos of him. And, so much more! Please feel free to leave comments and/or ask questions. We'll be checking often to respond!

Kandi's Post --
First things first -- We found out at last weeks appointment that Nathan is gaining weight!!! Our little peanut went from being in the 6th percentile to the 10th!!! I now go to my doctor each week for a non stress test (where they monitor the babies heart rate for 30 minutes) and I see a specialist every two weeks who monitors his weight and growth. Just as a precaution.

Our appointment today went very well. The doctor was pleased with Nathan's progress and are just going to keep monitoring him. If his weight drops below the 10th percentile then we'll make other appropriate decisions at that time. I'm convinced he is just a little peanut -- like his mom and dad!!! Oh yeah, and Chopper too! Other than that I am feeling perfectly fine - a little tired at times but that's about it.

The Baby's Room -- thank God for sisters!!!! My sister has been here painting room after room and getting the house in order for Nathan. Danny has to move the bed and dresser out of his room but that will be done this week. Danny moved the office upstairs so that the room off the living room can be Nathan's play room. Well, at least after we've redone that entire area of the house. I figure he won't be crawling for some time so there's no rush.

We haven't purchased the crib and dresser yet but will do that next week. I've picked the set out and it only takes 7 to 10 days for it to come in. I don't have a rocker and am not sure if I should get one. (see the survey)

That's it for this Nathan report. See you all, or at least most of you, on Saturday. I will blog again after the BABY SHOWER and then each week after our appointments!!
