Count Dracula?

Around 6:00am this morning, just after returning from grocery shopping, I was taking the dog out and something struck me. My table centerpiece.

I love table clothes, using cloth napkins for meals, using the "good dishes" just because, and having flowers or some holiday decorations on the table. The dinner table is a special place for family and growing up we ate together every night. It's a practice my husband and I have continued.

This morning I saw this new fancy centerpiece. Interesting how things change when you're blessed with children. Basketball anyone?

Nathan had pear/raspberry yo baby yo yogurt for breakfast today and after a few bites I suddenly realized I was sharing the table with Count Dracula! :-)

Breaking news for Down syndrome!!!!!!!

John McCain has chosen Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin, mother of 5 children and former beauty queen, as his Vice Presidential running mate. The oldest of her children is enlisted with the army and heading to Iraq in September. Her youngest son, Trig Paxton Van Palin, was born in April, with Down syndrome.

When the CNN news alert came today - I knew right away who she was! In fact, having an infant son myself with Down syndrome, I had researched her family long ago. I watched today as she took the national stage and yes I teared up! Trig was there! With his mom for her big day along with the rest of the family.

I am so excited I can't stand it!!! Being in government for the past 12 years I know first-hand the impact her personal experience can bring to the decision making table.

Children Birthday Party Ideas by Parents

If you have children, you know how important your child's birthday party is. My son turns one in January - 4 months from now and I've been working on his party and stressing out about it for two months now! Nathan's only going to turn 1, once - that's pressure!

Because Nathan's only turning one, children's themed parties are out unless Baby Einstein parties are an option! I found out they are!!!!Nathan loves the bee on his Baby Einstein, First Sounds movie. If this were Mary Poppins we could pop into the movie and have one heck of a 1st birthday bash.
.
My sister found a great website for birthday party ideas that is written by parents! It's wonderful - check it out - you'll never have birthday party anxiety again!

Kids Sale!

Talbots kids sale

Talbots website has a sale on children's clothes - 30%. The site says Talbots kids clothes will be going, going, gone - so stock up. This may be beneficial to those of us who live in the area because we are fortunate to have an outlet located off of Wolf Rd behind the Macaroni Grill. Maybe when this sale ends and the clothes are no longer available they'll be shipped to the outlet stores. We can only hope!!!

Creed of Babies with Down Syndrome

Creed of Babies with Down Syndrome

My face may be different
But my feelings the same
I laugh and cry
And I take pride in my gains

I was sent here among you
To teach you to love
As God in the heavens
looks down from above

To Him I'm no different
His love knows no bounds
It's those here among you
In cities and towns
that judge me by standards
That man has imparted
But this family I've chosen
Will help me get started

For I'm one of the children
so special and few
That came here to learn
The same lessons as you
That love is acceptance
it must come from the heart

We all have the same purpose
Though not the same start
The Lord gave me life
To live and embrace
And I'll do it as you do
But at my own pace

Timing is everything

In life, timing is everything, and today Nathan's dad asked when we would be moving his crib into his room. I said "never." That was the end of that. :-)

Turning Four & Couldn't Be Loved More!

Nathan's cousin Emily is turning 4 today and having a cooking party with all her BFF's! So, we thought it would be totally cute to send a birthday wish in Emily's favorite chefs hat!
