Summer Writing Program For Down Syndrome ~ Pass It On!!

Hello friends. I wanted to make you aware of a summer writing campaign sponsored by the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center if you know of any students ages 8-14 that might want to participate. We could all use a bit of inspiration and the students have a chance to win some great prizes. Please pass along to any parents or students you know. ATTENTION: CAPITAL REGION STUDENTS AGES 8-14

“Words that Walk” Summer Inspirational Writing Campaign presented by the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center and supported by Pet Spas of America

What: The Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center (DSAHRC) provides parent-to-parent and professional services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families so that they may have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential and become fully included members of their communities. In advance of this year’s Buddy Walk we are inviting students to participate in the “Words that Walk” Summer Inspirational Writing Campaign. Students are invited to submit one of the following;writing pieces below that portray the mission of the DSAHRC and the Buddy Walk.

- Poem/song lyrics
- 150-word essay/words of inspiration
- Open letter to fellow students/peersEntries should focus on promoting any or all of the following: acceptance and inclusion; equality; humanity and kindness among all individuals. They should also serve as inspirational words of encouragement for fellow students and peers.

Who: Students ages 8-14 are eligible to submit entries. Entries should be submitted via e-mail to wordsthatwalk@dsahrc.org, faxed to 518-438-2716 or mailed to DSAHRC, 1 Marcus Blvd./ Ste. 105, Albany, NY 12205. One entry per student. All entries must include name, age of stud ent, school (if desired) and appropriate contact information. Parents contact information is necessary to verify entry. There is no cost to enter and the contest entries/winners/details willbe made public.

The top 3 winning entries, after review by an independent group of volunteers, will be rewarded:

1st Place - $250 and event sportpack
2nd Place - $100 and event t-shirt
3rd Place - $50 and event water bottle


When: Entries can be submitted until September 1, 2009. Winners will be announced and read at the 2009 Capital Region Buddy Walk on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Schenectady Central Park.
