Nathan is Hebrew and means "gift from God" - we couldn't have been more blessed than to have been chosen as his parents!

Thank you for keeping up-to-date with Nathan. We hope you visit often and enjoy experiencing our son's journey as much as we do. Please feel free to leave comments.

We love hearing from everyone!!!!

Therapy Update

Nathan has really been working hard during his therapy sessions and all of his therapists seem very happy with how's he's progressing. This week we worked on feeding, problem solving through the use of toys, opening boxes to find hidden objects, and actively making more advanced toys work. We also worked on core strength, walking and using our pointer finger.

Will Work For Food

Nathan's new speech therapist came aboard yesterday and she's wonderful! We've made some very significant changes in our eating techniques and that's only the beginning! Her first visit was Monday and I was unable to be here but Nathan's Aunt Kathy filled me in the moment I came home. Our first significant change - Nathan needs to be an active participant when eating.

As you can see from this picture, Nathan would sit in his high chair, open his mouth and wait for mommy to bring him a spoon full of yummy food. What's wrong with this picture? Nathan really hasn't been actively participating beyond chewing and that had to change. I had no idea.

We now have to bring the spoon to him but not to his mouth. Now, I bring it just in front of him - at which point he has to sit up and actively place his mouth around the spoon and/or hold the spoon and feed himself. Well, this didn't go over so well at first.
But, Nathan got the hang of it after a while. It was the battle of the wills and knowing it was for his own good - I persisted. In the below picture you can see he's sitting up to get the food ~ BINGO.
After a few bites he even began to feed himself. Way to go Nathan!

The next morning the therapist wanted to show me "the new technique" so that I could begin implementing it. I told her, that I had already begun to do that yesterday. When she began to feed Nathan he was actively participating in the process and she couldn't believe it! She said, "he wasn't doing this yesterday." Yeah, I know. That's my little star!
We're also working on some other things but that's another post for another day!

And So It Begins....

Have you ever seen those kids that wear their pants halfway down their butt? You know the ones. Well, each time I encounter such a teenager I say: "I hope my child never thinks that style is cool!" Well, although not intentional, Nathan was modeling this lovely little style on Saturday!

My first thought was - OH NO! Then, I laughed and ran for the camera! BTW - out little angel eyes is fourteen months old today! Where does the time go?
