WELCOME TO NATHAN'S BLOG!

Nathan is Hebrew and means "gift from God" - we couldn't have been more blessed than to have been chosen as his parents!

Thank you for keeping up-to-date with Nathan. We hope you visit often and enjoy experiencing our son's journey as much as we do. Please feel free to leave comments.

We love hearing from everyone!!!!

Never Trust a Fart!

Yep, that's right - never trust a fart. Especially, from your infant son.

Yesterday, after finishing dinner I ran out to the store and daddy gave Nathan a bath. As I mentioned in a previous post, Nathan just wants to stand in the tub these days and while getting a bath he let one rip! Nothing unusual - all little ones fart unexpectedly - that's just what they do and Nathan does it well. So, Danny really never thought anything of it. He was probably like - "that's a good one!"

Right up until the moment he looked in the tub and saw the huge poop floating around!

When I returned home, Danny called me upstairs and said, "go look in the tub" - "see what Nathan made." I was like "what? ok." YIKES!!! I knew I needed those trash bags!

We were all cracking up now - including Nathan! :-)

New York State Access Park Pass

Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with a permanent disability and live in New York State? Well, I have some good news - The New York State Parks Department and the Department of Environmental Conservation thinks you should have free access to it's parks, recreation facilities, and historical sites!!

We are certainly going to take advantage of this program for Nathan and maybe we'll be beach bums all summer! Sounds good me. We can build sandcastles, go swimming, fishing, and take nature walks! We can also go camping and check out the historical sites around the state.

Take advantage of this program sooner rather than later. As with most things in government the paperwork can take up to 10 weeks. I'll be sending mine in the mail today!

Thank you to the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center for alerting me to this program.

Follow the link provided in the title of the post for more information and the application.

Maybe we'll see you at the beach!!!

Big Steps For A Little Guy

Nathan is taking steps!

As soon as I have a second pair of hands, I'll post a video. What we've been doing is placing some toys on to our ottoman, stepping back a few feet and encouraging Nathan to get his toys! He's doing really well and improving everyday! Yesterday he actually took three steps for Daddy! I feel we still have some time before he's really ready to take these steps without encouragement but we're getting there! Way to go my little rock star!

Bath time has also become an interesting experience since Nathan learned to pull himself up. Now, instead of playing with toys and splashing like a crazy boy he just wants to stand up! The entire time! He even tried to climb out last week! That's my boy! :-)

I'm sure that all of you with boys can relate to this but my son just turned 14 months old and has Down syndrome - it isn't "suppose" to be this way! I love that! He's rewriting the expectation rule book. You go Nathan!!!
