New Jersey Tomatoes...

This week, Nathan, Nonnie & I, headed to New Jersey to pick up a truck load of New Jersey's famous tomatoes. Nonnie's wanted to get tomatoes from New Jersey for the past few years but our timing has never been right, until now. The farm that we chose grows without the use of pesticides and has a special farming technique that makes these particular tomatoes taste delicious. Their peaches are really good too!

We had planned on saucing/canning them a few days later, but Nonnie determined they weren't ready. However, she quickly changed her mind when she figured out that some of them were beginning to spoil because they had been picked in the rain. Who knew? We've had a tremendous warm and sunny summer, but this week was rainy and the farm had no choice but to pick and fill our order in the rain. When we returned home, I left the tomatoes in their boxes, as instructed, but took the tops off and covered them with a sheet. If I had known this little tid bit of information, I would have taken them out and dried them on sheets. Live and learn, I guess.

The farm was about 2.5 hrs away and Nathan was terrific on the ride. We were pleasantly surprised to learn, that the farm wasn't just about fruits and veggies, but had lots of animals and a giant hay stack for Nathan to climb too! It's always nice to spend time with Nonnie and introduce Nathan to new experiences! He did really well climbing the giant hay stack ~ I was so proud of him! For a little boy with low muscle tone, he's pretty strong.

There were lots of farm animals and Nathan enjoyed meeting each of them! The next few posts will feature Nathan's second hippotherapy session, his resent x-ray results and what we're going to do about them, a visit from Grandpa and lots of birthday celebrations!

Thanks for checking in on Nathan! Have a great day!
